Respiratory Rate
Neuroscientist Alan Watkins is an advocate for rhythmic breathing as a way of supporting mindfulness.
Age | Breaths per minute |
---|---|
Infant | 30 or more |
Child | 22-28 |
Adolescent | 16-20 |
Adult (normal) | 14-18 (women typically have higher rates than men) |
Adult (abnormal) | <10 and >20 |
Lots of different devices (including Fitbit and Apple Watch) can monitor breathing rates throughout the day. Some even offer a mindfulness feature that guide you through deep breathing sessions.
