Culture

From Faster Than 20

Culture is ultimately about group identity: who we are, and why.

Culture consists of our collective mindsets, values, and behaviors. Mindsets, values, structures, and habits play a strong role in determining our behavior.

The challenge with mindsets and values is that they are invisible. In order to have a more tangible conversation about culture, it's important to be explicit about about mindsets and values. One way to do that is with Mindset Cards. Once you're explicit about desired mindsets and values, now you can be more concrete about assessing culture.

One way in which culture manifests itself (and hence a great intervention for shifting and driving culture) is through working agreements.

Another way in which to do culture work is with the Strategy / Culture Bicycle, which encourages us to explore the following four questions:

  • Who are we now?
  • Who do we want to be? Why?
  • How do we get there?
